Success Story: How John secured two competitive job offers during Power Up

For John Spelman, one of our early Power Up participants, when his company changed direction and restructured, as one of the last people in he found himself being let go.
The back story
According to John, the company he had recently joined went through a period of retrenchment and reduction in the workforce. As the last person to join, it also meant that John was one of those let go.
"I was the last to join and they were reducing the size of the workforce so i was looking very much looking for new opportunities," John explains. "I just wanted to just strengthen my core skills."
Fortunately, John had the foresight to see this as an opportunity to explore what he wanted from his career and build his confidence and self-belief around his future career direction.
Discovering Power Up
John discovered the Power Up program as a result of attending a webinar hosted by founder Martin Coburn.
“The course sounded like something that would help me identify the strengths in myself and focus on those and hone my skills better and improve overall performance,” John explains. “It would help me in my quest for a new career."
Breakthrough
The Power Up program focuses on developing our 7 Natural Powers. Everyone who comes into the program has their own needs and challenges; everyone takes different parts of the program based on where they are at the time.
For John, being part of the Power Up program helped increase his self-awareness and an understanding of his strengths.
“It made me a lot more aware of my personality and what I need to watch out for and what I need to focus on,” he explains. “It gave me focus on where my best energies are and what I really wanted around objective setting.”
The program also made a difference in John's confidence.
“I felt I grew in confidence through the process,” John continues. “Towards the end, I was far more enlivened and engaged as we went through the process.”
The power of the group
One of the most valuable aspects of Power Up Live was the intimate group within which John found himself. He explains the benefit is not only in its diversity but also in seeing the changes in everyone over the period of the program.
“The group was the right size,” John says. “There were people from different backgrounds. It was great for getting everyone’s different perspectives.”
“You can see over a few weeks, some real changes in the group,” he adds.
Getting the offers
As a result of this period of reflection and getting focused, John secured not one but two competitive job offers during the Power Up program.
“I was in a situation where looking for a new role. I ended up with two competitive offers,” John explains. “Being part of Power Up helped me as part of the interview process. It put me in a stronger position to present myself and my strengths.”
